April 2017. The essay is a synoptic exercise. As in the previous specification, BIOL5, there is a free response essay addressing a theme in a title, with a choice from two titles (Paper 3). The essay is designed to assess whether students can bring together material from a range of topics to illustrate and explain an important concept or idea.
